Well, it’s finally here. It seems that the cold weather is in full retreat, and none too soon for many people. Not that winter weather stopped the die hards from getting outside and enjoying the great outdoors even when it was a bit on the chilly side. Nope. All they did was plan ahead and make sure that they were properly equipped from head to toe. A very wise move. One of the key pieces of equipment that any smart outdoor enthusiast will be sure NOT to overlook is their socks. Yep, as crazy as that seems, a good pair of thermal socks can be a make-or-break piece of gear that you definitely don’t want to get wrong.
Think about it… what is going to ruin an otherwise nice day in the outdoors? Cold, clammy feet. When your feet are cold, it’s hard for the rest of your body to warm up and get comfortable. And if your feet are wet on top of that… well you can just about forget about having a good day.
This is where thermal hiking socks come in. Not only do they help keep your feet warm and comfortable, but they also keep your feet dry by wicking sweat away from your skin towards the outer layers of the fabric where it won’t bother you and will more readily evaporate.
The thing is, pulling moisture away from the skin not only helps keep your feet dry, comfortable and warm in cold weather, but as crazy as this might seem, the same system works to keep your feet dry, comfortable and COOL in hot weather. And no matter if your thermal socks are synthetic, synthetic/natural blend, or if they are 100% merino wool, wearing them in the hot summer months for your hiking trips makes just as much sense as wearing them in the winter time.
