When someone mentions a rain shower, the first thought that comes to mind is the weather condition. This is a true testament to how novel the concept is. However, rain-style showers, the newest trend in bathing, did get their name from the gentle pouring of water from the skies. This kind of shower aims to give people the same effect whenever they take a shower.

Contrary to the high-pressure showers that people have grown accustomed to, this type of shower shoots tiny droplets of water on the skin through low-pressure water flow. People have always thought that high-pressure power showers are the best because the prickling of water on the skin was said to have an abrasive effect that can remove dirt and grime accumulated throughout the day. However, new research has proven that this abrasive effect does not only remove the things people don’t want on their skin, but unfortunately it also removes the important oils that the skin needs to stay hydrated. Excessive power showering has been known to cause dryness to the skin and can make people prone to rashes as the natural protective covering of the skin has been removed. With rain showers, however, users can still cleanse themselves without damaging the skin.

A rain shower goes well with modern bathrooms because it fits in with its minimalist and practical look, while at the same time blending well with its existing style theme. Practical homeowners are also switching from traditional showerheads to rain showerheads because the latter is a proven energy-saver. Because of their low-pressure water flow, this type of shower uses less water thus significantly reducing the water bills. Environmentalists are advocating rain-style showerheads since they are very earth-friendly due to their water-saving feature.

With all the great characteristics and qualities that rain-style showers can offer, integrating one in your bathroom is undoubtedly a wise move.

The Basics for Wet Room Showers

1. Wet rooms tend to require more space since they can’t be small rooms where a bath or toilet or sink or vanity is right next to the shower that will essentially be open.

2. The drainage and slanting of the floor will be handled by the builders, but you will want to situate the showerheads away from spraying a cabinet or an area you would prefer never got wet.

3. You will want stone, tile or teal wood, or a blend of these to make wet room showers practical. Usually the entire space will be sealed, the stone or tile or wood treated and areas that are painted will be done so with a polyurethane paint or a sealant and then a very water resistant coat of paint on top.

A well designed walk in shower wet room could be the focal point of your home, and this is not something you will get in a kit or find all ready in a showroom because wet rooms are uniquely created for a specific space. All you can do is get ideas, discuss them with your architect or contractor and make them reality based on your budget and your space.

Ideas for Wet Room Showers

Glass blocks, stone, mosaic tiles, wooden benches, curved walls to separate toilet and sink, and other little extras like dual or triple shower heads all are things that can be added to a walk in shower wet room and make them unique. Using a single panel of glass, not as a door, but as a divider from the toilet or from a cabinet or other area may be all the division you need between shower and the rest of the room. An open bathhouse feeling can also be obtained by using mosaic tiles on walls and floors. A rustic teak bathhouse feeling can be achieved with stone and wood, always teak, for floors and walls and accented with wooden benches. An art deco design can be had using curved walls as entryways or a s partial dividers. Glass blocks can give light, be used as half wall dividers, even be used in place of sheet glass.

One of the best part of wet room showers is that they can be built as easily for two or three as they can for one, so add two or more showerheads and enjoy having a back scrub once in a while.
