There are a number of occasions in every year when we men must ponder the gift giving question; what on earth would be the perfect gift for my wife? Three of these events are in fact rather major; the Birthday, the Anniversary and of course Christmas. Most of the time we have a tendency to think big, by trying to “top” whatever the last gift happened to be. This is usually a big mistake, for over the years, I have discovered that it is the little things that really do mean the most.
There are exceptions to my theory, of course, but if your wife is logical and humble, it is not necessary to indulge in items that are extravagant or overly expensive. This “practical” lady is likely to be thrilled with something as simple as a shiny new non stick frying pan. Other practical ideas might be a beautiful lamp for the great room, a piece of costume jewelry to compliment her newest dress or even a subscription to her favorite magazine.
If your wife is the sentimental type, check out the antique shop for a piece of antique jewelry. Don’t place a burden on your credit card with an expensive piece; the antique shops have lots of beautiful items and generally at very reasonable prices. Consider perfumes, tickets to see her favorite performer or have a picture of the two of you at an early time enlarged, retouched and placed in a pretty frame. Top this off with a nice dinner at a quiet, cozy restaurant and you’re a real winner.
If your lady is into sports, then by all means, you have a world of things to choose from. Whether it’s basketball, football, hockey, soccer, or NASCAR; think about tickets to an up coming game or auto race. The collectible memorabilia that floats around all these teams and events is endless. And, here’s a tip; if your wife is trying to lose a little weight by working out, she might like nothing better than some fitness stuff a Yoga mat, hand weights, a set of workout DVDs or a pre-paid gym membership.
The major point here is that you should never feel obligated to corrupt the family budget or break the bank when choosing a special gift for that very special lady in your life. What she wants more than anything else is to know that you remembered. Things are just that; – - things can be replaced. Your love for her is precious and can never be replaced. Show it, let her know it, and realize that the little things really do mean the most.
