A griddle pan can be used for various cooking purposes, be it – baking, frying or searing. It’s almost an absolute necessity when it comes to cooking pancakes and kabobs. They are available in many shapes like – round, square and rectangular and in different sizes too. Some are made to fit over a single stove burner while others are big enough and need two burners. The bigger griddle can cook eight medium pancakes or one pound of bacon at a time. Stainless steel pans can be used directly on top of a stove while a cast iron pan can also be used on a campfire.
Steaks, fish, hamburgers and chicken can be cooked on raised ridged griddles, which allows meat’s juices to drip away from the food and flat surface griddle can be used for cooking pancakes, eggs and bacon. On griddles with a non stick surface only plastic or wooden utensils should be used but a cast iron griddle can bear anything.
Cast iron griddle needs to be seasoned before each usage but a stainless steel griddle pan does not need any such preparation. After using, clean and dry the cast iron griddle and wipe it with the help of a little vegetable oil. Electric griddles can be cleaned with water but make sure to use a wash cloth or nylon scrubber to prevent wear of the surface if it is non-stick, whereas, to clean a cast iron pan hot water washing is recommended. It should be dried with a paper towel as air drying can cause rusting of the surface.
Quality of the griddle is a big factor while buying one, because you are going to make regular use of it and it should at least last a few years before going useless. And once you have it, take good care of it and learn to use it properly. With this multitasking pan, you are going to enjoy cooking and eating those delicious dishes cooked out of it.
