Have you ever been to the movies to see a magic or fantasy film and came out from the theatre feeling pretty happy? Have you ever taken time to wonder why this? There’s something in magical movies that moves the emotions inside us.

When we go to see magic movies we expect to escape our normal, everyday existence and be taken into a completely different world. This might be true for other genres like comedies and so on, as well, but these films are far too close to reality compared to a fantasy film. If you have been in a dark cinema for 3 hours watching weird and wonderful creatures flying around, breathing fire and witches and wizards casting spells, you will be leaving the theatre with a completely different feeling as when you arrived.

You wont find anything in a magic movie that you are able to relate to your own live, unlike most other movie genres. There is nothing in this type of film that is intended to remind you of anything you have previously seen or experienced. The writer doesn’t want you to see any resemblances of friends in any of the characters. What the writer wants is that you are taken on an adventure where you will see things you have never seen before. These movies are intended to amaze.

Fantasies are quite similar to classical music. They start off feeling soft and eerie. Then, they will slowly build up until you are totally sucked in and you cant pull yourself away, even if you want to. This is when all the actions comes to a climax. Then all of a sudden there is a dramatic crescendo and the movie, or song, comes to a halt.

This climax followed by the happy ending that has us coming out of the cinema with a huge smile on our face. Over the last two hours you have been on a magical journey with weird creatures in weirder surroundings, at the end everything turned out as it should and evil was defeated. Magic movies let us go on a fantastic journey, but in a safe environment with our friends and family close to us.
