Why Organic Hair Shampoo is Best!

For me, one of the most challenging things about going organic has been finding a hair shampoo that I liked.  I will be honest, I have come to expect a certain about of lather in my shampoo and for a while, the fact that most organic shampoos do not lather like their conventional counterparts really stood in my way.  Like many people, I had it in my head that a good lather meant that my hair was getting clean.

It wasn’t until I understood just how harsh and damaging the ingredients that cause that lather were for me that I began to change my mind.  It is the sulfates in shampoo that cause it to lather so nicely.  Unfortunately, sulfates are so harsh that they are also used when making engine degreaser.  Another common use of sulfates is in research as a skin irritant.  If you were trying to prove that your product was great at soothing, calming and healing skin, chances are you would use sulfates to first irritate the skin.

Most people are surprised to learn that despite how harsh these chemicals are to your skin, they are still commonly used – even in baby shampoos!  They are linked to serious eye issues and may also lead to other health concerns.  One of the first things to remember when looking for a good shampoo is that you want to choose one that is sulfate free.  A good one that I like is by Modern Organic Products.

It is also a good idea to stay away from parabens in beauty products.  They are commonly used to preserve products and why they do this, they have also been linked to breast cancer.  Many experts believe that parabens can mimic the effects of estrogen in the body.  It is especially important to stay away from parabens when you are pregnant or nursing, because they may cause sexual problems later in life for your child.

Non-Surgical Hair Replacement

Non-surgical hair replacement can be an ideal solution for those who suffer from significant hair loss and would like to regain the appearance of a full head of hair without surgery.  Although there are some extremely natural looking hairpieces available, most people have no idea what to look for when purchasing a hairpiece.  The hair loss industry is notorious for taking advantage of vulnerable hair loss sufferers, in fact more than 70% of non-surgical hair replacement consumers are unhappy with the quality, service and price provided by their hair replacement salon.

A hairpiece is just that, a hairpiece.  Regardless of the name used to market them they are a prosthetic device designed to give the illusion of a full head of hair.  Today’s hair systems primarily use two materials to construct the bases, either polymers or meshes or a combination of the two.  Mesh fabrics are made of polyester or nylon and are used to create the fine hairline of a good product.  In some cases, they are used throughout the entire system, which provides a natural appearance but is impractical for long-term use.  Polymers are made of either silicone or polyurethane and are used to create a material that mimics the appearance of skin or scalp.  This material is used in more durable systems and many use it in areas where the hairpiece is to be attached in order to protect the unit for long time wear.

The best hairpieces are custom-made from excellent quality human hair matched to the hair of the client.  The matching includes the color, texture, nature of curl or wave, or straightness, as well as hair thickness.  The hair in less expensive hairpieces may be made of moderate-quality human hair, animal hair or artificial fibers.  Human hair is fragile, so even the most expensive hairpieces need regular maintenance and should be replaced after time.

Hairpieces can be attached to the head in one of three ways; semi-permanently attached, which are designed to be removed only by a hair technician or stylist, usually once every six weeks.  They are affixed to the scalp by the use of various adhesives.  This method can be very unhealthy for you, your head and your hair.  Shampooing with this hairpiece attached does not thoroughly clean the scalp; it is suggested that it be loosened or removed once every five days so the scalp can be cleaned.  The second way of attaching a hairpiece is double sided tape.  This is the easiest method of attachment; it can be removed and reattached at any time.  The tape can leave a sticky residue on the scalp and on the underside of the hairpiece that will need to be washed off.  Perspiration and swimming can loosen the tape.  Lastly, metal clips that attach to the underside of the hairpiece and fasten to your own hair that is either under or adjacent to the hairpiece may be used.  These are very secure, but also very easy to remove.

Hairpieces are the most popular method of hair replacement, but cost and appearance of hairpieces vary widely based on the materials used and the level craftsmanship in their creation.  This is something that should certainly be researched before money is invested; make sure you will be satisfied with the appearance and that the hairpiece you choose will not further damage your hair or scalp.

How To Combat Frizze Hair Effectively!

Have you ever had a bad hair day? Ofcourse you have, everybody has had one at one time or another. The worst bad hair days is when your hair is frizzy. Frizzy hair can make a person look horrible and it can really ruin your day. Luckily, there are some things you can do about frizzy hair.

1. Keep the hair cool. Coolness has the benefit of closing down the cuticle of your hair. This prevents the hair from becoming frizzy. The cuticle is the outer layer of each strand of hair. Heat has the exact opposite effect. So not only is it in your best interest to apply coolness, but also to avoid heat. Continue reading

Considering Laser Hair Removal Cost

Hair is an essential part of the body. It not only adds beauty to one’s appearance but can also be styled in different ways. But what I’m talking about here is the hair on your head. However, hair may also be present in various parts of the body, such as the face, legs, arms, chest, and back. While some may love having a lot of these hairs around and may consider it to be sexy and attractive, others may look at having such around to be untidy or disgusting. Continue reading

Getting Straight Hair with a Hair Straightener

Hair straightening irons come in various sizes, shapes and styles, with chrome, gold or ceramic plates. Ceramic, while somewhat more expensive than the other hair straighteners, is generally considered to be the best, as it affords a uniform temperature, avoiding “hotspots” that can severely damage the hair. Solid ceramic plates are preferable, although some models have just a ceramic coating on the plates.

Most plates are flat, although some are curved, to aid in promoting a soft, uniform curl. A few offer variable temperature settings, for use with hair that is either fine or coarse. Various plate widths are also available, the wider plates being more effective in combating natural waviness, while the narrower plates are typically used on hair that is very curly.

The hair is captured between the two hot plates of the iron, and pulled through them, both heating and stretching the hair. Care should be taken to follow a constant speed and pressure, so as to give a uniform result.  Nicer hair straighteners such Chi and Sedu hair straighteners moderate heat closely to properly prevent damage while minimizing the amount of time necessary to achieve good results.

The results achieved by simple iron use are temporary, usually lasting one to three days, depending upon the natural state of your hair. Rain or high humidity can quickly reverse the effects, so thought should be given to your ambient conditions when selecting this process. Also, be cautious about overuse of the straightening irons, as your hair can be burned or made frizzy, and only growing out will really remedy any damage. Conditioners do help, as with many sorts of hair damage, but burns are irreversable. Care should also be taken not to try to stretch your hair too hard. If it is uncomfortable to you, you’re pulling too hard. Either lighten the plate pressure, or pull less, but be careful not to move the iron too slowly, so as to avoid burning.

The Bad Economy Brings Lower Hair Restoration Prices

The old idea of supply and demand is very active in this current economic down turn which means hair restoration prices are lower than they have been for years.  Many products and services which are not absolutely essential are seeing a dramatic decrease in customer base.  This means downward pressures on the prices for these goods and services are quite substantial bringing great savings to people who can still afford these luxuries.  One area this is very pronounced is cosmetic surgery and hair restoration.  While sometimes clients for these services are forced into this surgery due to accidents or the like, most of the time cosmetic procedure are done more for vanity purposes.

Whatever the reason, if you have been thinking about dealing with your balding hair by having a hair restoration procedure now is the time to jump and find the best deal you can.  Visits to hair replacement clinics are down substantially and this means they are more than willing to offer steep discounts for their services.

You will more than likely need to go into the clinic for a consultation in order to get an estimate for your procedure.  This makes sense because the medical staff needs to determine how many individual grafts would be needed and how difficult it will be to transplant the donor hair follicles into your balding area.  Of course, every head is different and they need to see yours to make a determination.  After examination of your hair and head you will be led into a room not unlike the one you would visit at a used car lot.  This is where the selling will begin.  At this point you need to understand you are in a negotiation and you need to be aware of how to get the best hair restoration price you can.

Listen to what the staff person has to say about the procedure and then ask for a complete cost estimate.  When they give you a number, thank them and then say that is much more than you thought it would be.  Ask if there are any discounts available.  If not, stand up and thank them again then walk toward the door.  You will be amazed at how fast they will stop you and find some “missed numbers” that will lower the price ten, twenty, even thirty percent.  Why not try it, you have nothing to lose because you have already lost your hair.
