Did you ever want to know how to use a floor buffer and make your floors shine like the sun? A floor buffer can appear huge and monstrous in size but it can be very simple to use once you learn the technique.
Before you make those floors shine, you may want to examine the extension cord for any breaks or abrasions and secure it to the buffer power cord with duct tape or loop the cords together. Plug the power cord into a grounded outlet and then let it trail behind you once the machine has started.
There are actually two kinds of floor buffing machines – one uses wheels that guides it, and the other has a buffering pad. It is simple to operate the one with the wheels because all you have to do is to push the switch at the handlebars and moving it backward and forward on the floor.
The other one can be difficult to negotiate since it is heavy and exerts a lot of force when it starts. It doesn’t have wheels to guide it and relies on balance to run. If the machine isn’t balanced when the switch is squeezed, it’s going to run away and crash into either someone or something.
Next, attach the pad or brush to the buffer and pick it up by it handle and bring it to waist height. Do this motion without squeezing the switches at the handlebars. Your arms should be extended so the buffer is not close to you but there is about one foot space between your body and the handle of the buffer. Then, locate the switches on the handlebar’s sides and squeeze. The machine is going to begin moving to the right or left. So that you don’t lose control, brace your weight or use a firm grip with both hands and remove the pressure from the switches so the buffer stops.
So that the machine is in one place, or so you can move it around to the right or left, move the handlebar up or down to achieve the result you want. Finding your balancing point is achieved by moving the handle of the buffer either up or down when the machine is turned on. No dramatic movements – just small adjustments are needed. Keep trying a little at a time by turning the machine off and on and finding the balancing point. After you’ve found the point of balance, move your buffer handlebar down and up so you’re able to go side to side. Simply pull and push it by the handlebars to go forward and backward.
