Modifying your vehicle with aftermarket parts is a past time enjoyed by many enthusiasts. Many goodies are available for modifying you car or truck’s interior including new car speakers and stereo equipment. Common exterior modifications include new rims / tires, suspensions and free flowing exhausts. This hobby can be very expensive, however, but there are ways to save money, and still enjoy the benefits of the sport.
Typically the old adage, which states that “you get what you pay for,” applies here. This is especially true when it comes to car audio. Purchasing a pair of 6×9 car speakers for $50, which advertise remarkable specifications, will likely sound horrible next to a $200 pair which lists measly specs. You can still have a reasonable sound system at an affordable price, that is, if you consider that sometimes “less is more”. A full blown system with a trunk full of amplifiers and subwoofers, and a dozen speakers spread throughout the cabin can be overkill. A pair of coaxial speakers up front in the factory locations, along with a pair of 6×9 speakers in the rear deck can do a surprising job. Even when only powered by the head unit’s built in amplifier.
Purchasing aftermarket rims and tires can be a considerable investment. Cheap rims are available, and they will work just fine, but may not always with the look and style you may want.
Consider knock off brands. Many premium brand name wheel designs are duplicated by discount wheel manufactures and can be bought for a fraction of the price. If you find a cheap rim knock of style that you like, just to be safe, do some online research into it. Find out other users experiences; are they reliable and durable? Are other owners satisfied with them?
Look for rim sales. At the end of the season, outlets will often be looking to liquidate their inventory. Often, outgoing models will be replaced with new styles as well, so discontinued model sales are available.
Why not by used? Countless enthusiasts seem to sell or trade off their nearly new car parts as often as a normal person would change their underwear. They run out of money, they’re going back to school, they’re bored of the rims, or they’re selling the car… So many reasons!! This is their loss however, as great deals can be found this way on all parts. Your nearly new rims may even come with nearly new tires. Check online..eBay, local forums and for sale sites. The Internet will be your best option here. Good luck!
